David Berger was born June 24, 1944 in

 Cleveland, Ohio. David earned three college

 degrees, was a medalist in the 1965 and 1969

 Maccabiah Games, and was the 1969 U.S.

 Junior Nationals Middleweight Weightlifting

 gold medalist. In 1970, David made aliyah to 

 Israel, but retained dual U.S. and Israeli

 citizenship. He joined the Maccabi Tel  

 Aviv Weightlifting Gym, and in 1972,

 earned a spot on the Israeli Olympic team.

 David competed as a light heavyweight

 weightlifter on September 2. David Berger

 achieved his dream of participating in the

 Olympic Games whose ideals of peace and

 brotherhood he believed in.
